CSP Days 2023

Mental health diagnostics: How do you define the problem?

Panel

Description:

Some children and teenagers come to social pediatrics with erroneous or at least simplistic diagnoses, because we haven’t taken into account all the potential stressors in their physical, social and family environments, as well as in their life history. One of the great contributions of CSP is not to label these children out of hand, but to start the assessment from the beginning, in co-construction with the child himself, his family and the significant people around him. This workshop on differential diagnosis will enable participants to enrich their knowledge of the diagnostic process, then stimulate their clinical thinking through group discussions and exchanges with panelists. It will also address the emerging literature that untangles complex trauma disorders and attachment disorders, including ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Finally, the panellists will discuss the use of screening and prevention tools to promote children’s overall health, while remaining within the reach of participants.
